REALTORS® Mandatory Code of Ethics and Fair Housing Requirement

All REALTORS® are required to complete the N.A.R. Code of Ethics and fair housing course every three-year cycle. Failure to complete it will result in a suspension of your membership and all REALTOR®  benefits, including zipForms. The upcoming cycles are 1/1/2025 to 12/31/2027, 1/1/2028 to 12/31/2030, 1/1/2031 to 12/31/2033, 1/1/2034 to 12/31/2036. You will be notified if you must complete your Code of Ethics and Fair Housing requirement before the upcoming deadline of that cycle.

What satisfies this requirement?

– If you took the NAR online Code of Ethics and Fair Housing qualifying course as a NEW AGENT ONLY between the dates of the current cycle.

– If your DRE license expired(s) during the cycle and you renewed (or will renew) it.

What if I haven’t done either of the above options?

If you haven’t completed one of the above options, you must take the FREE National Association of REALTORS® free Code of Ethics training AND Fair Housing courses online. Once you have completed them and taken the required quizzes throughout, you will automatically satisfy your requirement. The information will be automatically recorded through NAR and you will NOT need to send the SBAOR any documents.

Where do I find the link to NAR’s code of Ethics Training to satisfy the requirement? REMINDER: You must complete both

COE Course: https://learning.realtor/diweb/catalog/item?id=9220562

Fair housing Course: https://www.nar.realtor/fair-housing/fairhaven

DO NOT TAKE THE FREE COURSE FOR NEW MEMBERS – THIS IS THE WRONG COURSE AND WILL NOT COUNT TO SATISFY THE REQUIREMENT

Can I complete it anytime within the 3-year cycle?

Yes. We encourage you to take this as soon as possible. Please remember that this is now required every three years (if you don’t satisfy one of the options listed previously).

What if I am exempt from taking the continuing education with the DRE because I am 70 years of age or more and have been licensed for 30 years or more?

You must still take the NAR online code of ethics every 3 years.

What if I have NAR Emeritus Status?

If you are NAR Emeritus, you do NOT have to take the COE requirements.

Where can I check to see if I still need to satisfy the requirement?

Who do I contact if I have questions?

If you need additional assistance or have any questions, please call the SBAOR and ask for the membership department at 310-326-3010 or email membership@southbayaor.com.
